John CHONG is a member of Hong Kong Film Development Council and Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

He was the co-founder and CEO of Media Asia Entertainment Group (1994-2012).  In 2004, Business Week honoured him as one of the “Stars of Asia” for his astonishing achievements in the film industry.

CHONG spent his entire career in the Hong Kong entertainment scene.  He started working for Television Broadcasts Ltd. (TVB) after graduation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1980.  He subsequently worked at Golden Princess Amusement Company Ltd., the mother company of Cinema City Company Ltd., from 1983 to1992, during which he also wrote screenplays and lyrics for Cantopop songs.

In 1994 CHONG worked at the satellite network Star TV Ltd. when he and his six partners decided the time was ripe for an entrepreneurial approach to filmmaking and distribution, giving rise to the formation of Media Asia Group. Since then, he has produced more than 100 feature films, including the global hits of the Infernal Affairs trilogy, Initial D and Cloud Atlas. Infernal Affairs was further remade by Warner Brothers into the Hollywood blockbuster The Departed directed by Martin SCORSESE, which won four major awards at the 79th Academy Awards® in 2007.
