He Daming is afflicted with a terminal illness. Accompanied by his wife Huiying, he returns to his hometown, which he hasn’t visited for some 30 years. It is his dying wish to see his father one last time, after they have cut ties with each other for years. Daming hopes for redemption, but he chooses self-abuse as a way of communicating with his father, causing deep torment and pain for all three in the family.

Floating in Memory (2009) screened in VPRO Tiger Awards Competition at the 38th International Film Festival Rotterdam. The Cremator (2012) also screened in many international film festivals. His fourth film Leaving with Love (2017) won Best Director at Mostra Cinematografica Cinese in Italy.
A Chinese actor, Yao Anlian is has appeared in in Shanghai Dreams (2005). As the lead of Factory Boss (2014), he won the Best Actor award at the 38th Montreal International Film Festival.
